Ghostbusters: Afterlife Movie Review, Trailer, and Story

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

If you’re old enough you definitely remember the comedy-drama ghost hunting film Ghostbusters from the 80s. The two films were Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) which followed the story of a group of scientists who captured wandering ghosts for a living. A third film titled Ghostbusters: Answer the Call was also released in 2016 as a reboot of the franchise but due to the underwhelming performance at the box office, the producers decided to do a direct sequel to the original Ghostbusters II next. The sequel is called Ghostbusters: Afterlife and will release next year.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Movie Story Explained

The story takes place thirty years after the events of the second film. A family consisting of a single mom and two children are forced to move to a small farm located in Summerville, Oklahoma, where they find out they have connections with the original Ghostbusters, and that they have to continue the secret legacy left by their grandfather.

That’s the overall plot synopsis we know as of now but we’re sure there’s more to it. We just have to wait and see for ourselves.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Movie Cast Members

The first cast members officially announced for the film were Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon playing the roles of Phoebe, Trevor, and Callie, the three protagonists of the sequel. Later on, Paul Rudd announced that he’s also in the film playing the character of Mr. Grooberson.

The good news for the fans of the original films is that we have some important returning characters in the sequel as well. Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts are reprising their roles from the first two films. You can see the full list of the other cast members down below:

  • Logan Kim as Phoebe’s classmate,
  • Celeste O’Connor as Trevor’s classmate,

  • Bokeem Woodbine as Sheriff Domingo,

Moreover, the film is being directed by Jason Reitman, who is best knows for his works on Thank You for Smoking (2005), Juno (2007), Up in the Air (2009), and Young Adult (2011). He is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original films. This doesn’t mean that Ivan Reitman isn’t involved in the sequel, as he is serving as the producer. Additionally, the story is written by Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman himself.
